I DO NOT support Entergy’s New Orleans Power Station proposal to create dirty, expensive, and unnecessary power for a brighter city. This power station will continue our walk backwards into the obsolete, outdated energy systems of the past, and it will NOT increase reliability for New Orleans. We must plan for the future to meet the city’s growing energy needs, and this power station will ONLY provide customers with power during peak demand. FIXING AND PROPERLY MAINTAINING our broken, outdated infrastructure will decrease dependence on the market and allow Entergy New Orleans to meet electricity demand more reliably at the lowest reasonable cost to customers. Additionally, the power station in New Orleans will NOT support economic expansion by creating 13 full time jobs and will be generating hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue exclusively for ENTERGY. An independent examination has found that the power station will have longterm adverse impacts on the environment, and that is TERRIBLE news for our community. Especially since it increases flood risks and dumps toxins right into the Michoud neighborhood. Given that the proposed site is the former location of the deactivated Michoud Plant, a power station here makes NO sense, as it will impact the adjacent communities who continue to be exploited. Ultimately, this power station will also support the lining of the pockets for greedy Entergy and completely disregards our need for a more sustainable future. For these reasons, I respectfully urge your refusal of the New Orleans Power Station proposal.
